Tracking Your Habits in the New Year

We are one week into the new year and if you are anything like most Americans, you’re savoring the clean slate feeling that can only come from turning the page on the calendar. A new year begins and we think about our hopes and dreams for the months ahead. Maybe you’ve set some new goals for yourself or habits you want to add or quit for real this time. Today we’re thinking about tracking our habits in the new year and how you can utilize three different Golden Coil layouts in your quest.

Track with Month at a Glance

We love this layout. If your goals this year include a daily gratitude practice, may we recommend using your Month at a Glance layout? Keep your planner on your nightstand or near the coffee maker. Each evening or morning, take a moment and capture a joyful moment from your day. If you have a few goals in mind for the month, write them at the top of the page on the first of the month. Track your progress toward your goals on the page. This layout is perfect for providing a little space to write a little without overwhelming you with a big journaling commitment. Keeping your goals close by and reading them each day will also help you stay motivated and see how far you’ve come.

Track with the Tracker Layout

The Tracker Layout is one of our newer pages and one of our favorites. This layout originated as a Baby Tracker but proved so versatile with you, our Golden Coil community, we kept it wide open for you to customize according to your needs. This tracker page, unlike using the Month at a Glance layout, tracks by the hour of the day. This is also a fantastic layout for all of you who prefer a visual tracking system. List the habit you want to track at the top and then get creative with highlighters, pencils, and fun pens to fill in squares as you go. Perhaps you want to devote more time to reading, exercising, or spiritual growth in the new year. Use the rows to fill in and track your progress. If you are a freelancer working for multiple clients, consider using this layout to track your hours. Give each client a color and shade hours accordingly while you work. Track with the Goals Layout

Our Goals tracking layout is a more traditional tracking page but super useful in the way it breaks your goals down. Track multiple goals on one layout. Start big with your plans for the year. Then break it into monthly benchmarks. Finally move to your weekly goals, the small steps that will get you to achieving the big goals. We like to keep a bookmark on this layout so we can refer back to it throughout the year. If you’ve found you’ve come up short meeting your goals in the past, this layout is wonderful for breaking your big plans into doable, actionable, achievable pieces. Remember, small changes completed consistently will get you where you want to go. Perfection isn’t possible, so keep slow and steady progress everyday to move yourself forward.
