Remember When? How to Capture Everyday Memories
I have a toddler who is constantly doing and saying hilarious things, things that, by the end of the day, I inevitably forget. One afternoon, she ran into my office to exclaim that the dog DID NOT need glasses! I wasn’t aware that this was up for debate, but after she made her case that Grizzly Bear (our pup) saw a squirrel from across the fence (evidence that his vision was at least 20/20), she went on her merry way. I scrambled to take note before the event once again faded and grabbed the closet sheet of paper I could find, my Golden Coil notebook. For the next week, I wrote down all of the hilarity and reflection that comes with parenthood in the margins of my planner which had me laughing to myself throughout the day.
For the entirety of my child’s life, I promised myself I’d start a journal. This task would have probably continued to evade me had the start not been completely inadvertant. Here are a few easy ways to document your life’s daily happenings, inside and outside of your planner.
Month At a Glance
The Month at a Glance spread is just enough for a one liner. I’ve been choosing something different to capture each month, like funny things she’s said or projects we’ve done together, and places we’ve gone. It’s proven a perfect time-capsule!
Notes App on Your Mobile Device
A friend recommended writing down little memories in your phone. She has an “I love my littles” note in her phone that she’s had for years. It’s just a running list of sweet doings and sayings she would have otherwise forgotten.
Year at a Glance 3
If short and sweet is more your style, try the Year at a Glance Page. It’s just enough space for a word or two, but you certainly don’t need to write a novel to capture a memory. A simple “made ice cream” or “beach trip” will do.
Undated Monthly
If the Year-at-a-Glance spread is too short, try the Undated Monthly pages. This is a fun place to tape in little scraps or even invite your children to draw you a little doodle, (if you dare!).
