Preparing Your Outdoor Space for Spring

Warmer temperatures mean we are spending more time outside! As we emerge from the winter, you may be feeling the itch to tackle some spring cleaning tasks on your list! As you begin thinking about cleaning up your outdoor space, we’ve assembled a checklist to guide you. Some tasks might not apply to your space, but pull what you need from the list below and jot down in your planner. And on your next free weekend, gather your gardening gloves, put some music on, and dig in!

Yard 

Rake fallen leaves and dead foliage

Fill any holes with dirt

Prepare grass for seeding 

Tackle any pest control you might need, such as crabgrass, etc 

Prune shrubs 

Prune trees, remove dead branches

Compost yard waste 

Garden 

Clean up vegetable garden and prep garden beds 

Till soil and add compost mix 

Planning and plant your garden 

Flower Beds 

Remove old mulch 

Clear dead leaves 

Cut back perennials 

Trim and remove old annuals

Prune flowering perennials to 4-5 in and ornamental grasses to 2-3 in

Plant insect repeller plants 

Deck & Patio 

Power wash and clean grill 

Replace fuel on grill and organize grilling supplies

Clean outdoor furniture

Powerwash surfaces 

Touch up paint and stain on wooden surfaces

Seal deck 

Clean outdoor covers 

Check light bulbs in outdoor lights 

Garage 

Organize and clean garage 

Take stock of garden and yard tools, sharpen blades 

Air up bike tires and clean up bikes

Miscellaneous 

Wash windows 

Remove storm windows and install and clean screens

Clean gutters

Check hoses and spigots 

Oil and check locks and hinges on gates

Have HVAC serviced

Patch and paint wood fences and structures
