Staying on Top of Household Chores
Tis the season for throwing open the windows and airing out our homes after the long winter! We are cleaning our spaces and crossing the seasonal chores off the list. Keeping your house clean each day can be a grind and feel like an endless to-do list you can never get to the bottom of. We are all for cleaning smarter and faster and not letting chores take over our days and especially our weekends! We love to utilize our Home Care layout to keep track of our cleaning daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning routines. Brainstorm a simple list of the chores you’d like to see completed on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis. We love to keep a daily list that takes 20-30 minutes or less. When the weekend comes around, we have been completing a one hour reset to ready our space for the week. We’re delving into it all below!
The Daily Cleaning List
We love a simple list we can follow each day to keep up on tasks around the house.
List:
1 load of laundry
Make beds
Load/Empty dishwasher
Take out trash
Check floors - sweep and vacuum
Quick declutter
Wipe down counters and sink
Tips:
If your washing machine has a delay start function, put a load in before you go to bed and schedule to wash an hour before you wake up. Once you’re up in the morning, switch to the dryer and your laundry is done for the day!
Families with older kids, this is a great space to get your kids involved! Kids can assist with nearly all chores on the list.
Get into the routine of running your dishwasher after dinner and unload it before breakfast in the morning.
Keep a laundry basket handy to carry room to room to assist in decluttering.
Make it a habit to have an empty, clean sink before you go to bed. It will help your morning go more smoothly to start with a clean space!
The Weekend Reset (Weekly) Cleaning List
We’ve gotten into the routine of setting aside an hour or two on the weekends to reset the house for the week. Set a timer, put on a fun playlist, and cruise through your list. Trust us, setting a timer really helps! And we guarantee a much easier Monday morning after pressing reset! Remember, this isn’t a deep clean, this is meant to be quick work so you can get back to relaxing and resting!
Weekend Reset:
Change bedding and towels
Start one load of laundry
Quick declutter
Quick bathroom wipe down
Kitchen
Take care of dishes. Wipe down counters, stove, and sink.
Wipe down the microwave, coffee maker, toaster.
Do a quick clean of the refrigerator. Toss any old food, wipe down shelves, organize what remains and note anything that needs replenishing.
Water plants
Wipe down the dining room table. Reset with a clean tablecloth.
Vacuum
Light a candle and relax!
Tips:
If you have some help, it will go even faster if one person tackles the kitchen tasks while the other works on the other tasks.
We love to clean the microwave by heating a mug of hot water with lemon for a few minutes. Let it sit with the door closed for 5 minutes. Then remove the mug and wipe down all the surfaces with a damp cloth.
The Monthly Cleaning Tasks
If you can schedule a little extra time once a month to hit a few additional tasks, your house will be in great shape!
Baseboards
Windows
Appliances
Spot clean fabrics
Polish wood furniture
Spot clean rugs
Quick closet and drawer sort and straighten
Phew! We hope this helps inspire ways to simplify your cleaning routine and feel less overwhelmed by the endless to-dos. Give us all of your cleaning tips in the comments!
