15 Ways to Show Gratitude in November

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”

Today we want to take you on a journey of how to show gratitude this month.  To really reflect on all you have and to make an effort to show those around you your gratitude towards them.

  1. Write a letter to family or friends that have made an impact in your life. This could be a few letters or this could be quite a few. Sitting down to reflect on how the special people in your life have helped you grow and progress through life is an excellent way to start off your month of gratitude.

  2. Start writing down one thing you are grateful for each day. This could be in a journal, on a sticky note, on your mirror, your phone - wherever! Just make an effort to write down one thing each day.

  3. Be an active listener to someone who needs it. Put down any distractions and focus entirely on the other person in that moment.

  4. Make a meal for someone that could use it. Write a small note about one thing you appreciate about that person and thank them for being them!

  5. Offer your help in the form of service. This could be volunteering in your community, offering to gather leaves for an elderly person in your neighborhood or babysitting for free. Reflect on how amazing it is to be able to give your time to someone else with the expectation of nothing in return.

  6. Move your body and eat something you love. Show your body gratitude by giving it the movement and fuel that it needs to keep going. Maybe even take a yoga class that will help you connect more with your body and appreciate all that it is doing for you.

  7. Bring a small treat or write a kind letter of gratitude to your doctors office, your local police department or fire station. Consider all they do to help you and your community stay safe each and every day.

  8. If you are able, provide your server at a restaurant or coffee shop a larger than normal tip.

  9. Create a gratitude scrapbook to give to a parent or grandparent. Have children and grandchildren each create a page of gratitude towards that person and then give it to them at Thanksgiving.

  10. Send a friend a coffee or other drink/treat when they aren’t expecting it! Add a little note about how much you appreciate them and let them know you are thinking of them.

  11. Take a walk and admire where you are able to live. Appreciate the sunshine, the trees, or maybe even the snow or rain if its a gloomier day.

  12. Have a gratitude party! Invite friends or family members over for treats and an activity where everyone can discuss the different aspects of their lives that they are grateful for.

  13. Send a quick text to anyone that passes through your mind in a day. It can just be a simple text saying “Hey, I was thinking about you and I wanted you to know how grateful I am for you!” or it can be more in depth. Whatever it is, it is sure to bring a smile to the recipients face to have the knowledge they are appreciated. You never know, this could come at just the right time for someone in need of those types of reassuring words.

  14. Clean up your living space and appreciate that you have somewhere safe, warm and comforting to come home to at the end of each day.

  15. Thank a boss or coworker for their help and support throughout your business day.
