Plan Daily with Golden Coil
Are you a daily planner? If you’ve made a daily Golden Coil planner for yourself, you’ll know there are some limitations and benefits that come along with the process. If you’re considering making one, let’s walk you through the ins and outs of doing so to help you make the most informed decision possible.
One of the things our customers love most about our planners is the quality. The covers are durable, the paper is luxurious, and the design of each page is clean and simple, allowing you to embellish or enjoy the minimalist page layouts. That being said, the quality of our planners is what places limitations on creating a daily planner. Because of our thick, bleed-proof 80# Mohawk paper, a daily planner reaches our 242-page limit at about 6 months in length. We are unable to print/bind planners that exceed our 242-page limit, as this is the total amount of pages that will fit on the largest coil that we have (and the largest we can get). If having one page dedicated to each day is important to you while also using our high quality planners, then the tradeoff will be that you’ll need to split your year into 2-3 planners. It’s helpful to note that even if we could facilitate a yearlong daily planner, you’d be carrying a textbook around with you since our 242 page planners are 1.5 inches thick!
While the quality of our planners is both a pro and a con when it comes to daily planning, your ability to customize your planner will work fully to your advantage! You have more flexibility than you think for making a daily planner, especially if you’re open to the idea of using a weekly layout and adding +pages that have the elements of the daily planning pages that you love. This is our #1 suggestion for adapting your daily planning while still getting a year’s length planner. Let’s compare a couple of layouts to give you some ideas:
This is our Hourly Daily Layout. You’ll notice it has a line dedicated to each hour of the day from 6am-9pm as well as some spots for priorities, notes, and a to-do list. It’s a really useful layout, especially if your schedule is jam-packed each day.
Now compare our Horizontal 1 Weekly Double Page Layout. You could use the lines under each day to still plan out the busiest hours while also having a nice to-do list dedicated to each day. There isn’t a list dedicated to daily priorities, but you could use a color-coding system to mark your priorities as they appear in your to-do lists or you could write a daily priority next to each day of the week. If you feel like you need more room for to-do items, you could add a weekly to-do +page. You could also add a weekly blank or lined +page if you’d like more room for notes.
Not a bad tradeoff, right? There really is a lot of flexibility to adapt your daily planning into our weekly layouts in order to get a full year’s length planner.
Here are a few other ideas for adapting your planning to the limitations of a year-long daily planner:
Could you get the most out of a daily planner by choosing a shorter planner length? A 6-month planner will allow for a very limited number of +pages. Consider splitting your year into 3 planners so you’ll have the ability to add more +pages.
If you’d like a 6-month planner but also enjoy a larger number of +pages, would it be better to create a separate notebook full of the +pages you enjoy?
Have you experimented with making a Golden Coil notebook instead of a Golden Coil planner? You won’t be able to select our weekly or daily layouts, but there may be a combination of +pages that would allow you to make your own version of a daily planner while using fewer pages to do so. This could allow you to create something closer to a full year daily planner.
Is there a way to supplement your daily planning while still using a weekly layout? Could sticky notes or a smaller companion notebook give you the extra space you need for notes/extra details while still mapping your overall plans in a weekly layout?
At the end of the day, we want to make sure you’re getting the very most out of your planner. If you prefer using our daily layouts, be sure to ask yourself if you’re fulling using every page. If not, consider our weekly layouts supplemented with +pages. There really is a nice amount of space dedicated to each day, especially with our Double Page Weekly Layouts, and there are a lot of great options in our +pages. If you do feel like you’re fulling using every bit of your daily layouts, then you can rest easy knowing you’re getting the very most out of your planner because you’re using every page while still enjoying the benefits of using a high-quality planner.
