3 Uplifting Podcasts to Boost Your Week

Golden Coil Customizable Planners listening to podcasts

Have you exhausted your list of Netflix binges? Or do you just need something to listen to while you tune out your kids for a bit? :) We’re sharing 3 of our favorite podcasts and episodes to give you a much needed boost of inspiration. Here’s what we loved about them:

Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

Have you heard all the rage about Brené Brown’s new podcast? We loved her recent episode on Anxiety, Calm & Over/Under-Functioning. Brené talks about day-to-day anxiety and how we all have habitual ways of dealing with it. Some people respond to anxiety by under-functioning (shutting down, letting others take over, feeling helpless) while others respond by over-functioning (getting in other’s business, micromanaging, taking too much on). She also shares helpful thoughts about how we can develop a “calm practice” to help us from spiraling into our patterned ways of dealing with our day-to-day anxiety.

Anxiety is definitely contagious. When one person’s anxiety goes through the roof, it affects everyone around them. But Brené’s tips on learning a “calm practice” are so empowering because she helps you realize calm is something you can practice and develop. And calm is just as contagious as anxiety. We can all learn to breathe before we respond, slow down, ask more questions, stay aware of our behaviors and avoid blaming others. This episode will help you understand yourself, others, and will give you helpful skills to work through these uncertain times! Listen to it here.

The Goal Digger Podcast

Jenna Kutcher always leaves us feeling empowered! Her business advice is practical and immediately applicable and every episode is packed with quality tips and content. Episode 347 (These 5 Things Will Make or Break Your Biz) was GOLD. Jenna interviews Natalie Ellis of BossBabe, who shares the 5 most important elements to getting your business started and running well. Natalie shares her inspiring backstory and is so encouraging and relatable. Her 5 main elements for starting a successful business are:

  1. Purpose - figuring out what you want to do and why and then setting very clear and related goals.

  2. Audience - nurturing a network and connecting with community. Natalie shares great tips for finding your ideal clients and how to help them know, like, and trust you.

  3. Revenue - This comes down to managing money and making money. Natalie shares helpful times for management (hello, Quickbooks!) and ideas for helping your clients go from signing up for a freebie to wanting to pay you for product.

  4. Systems - Natalie talks about the importance of setting up organized and streamlined systems while you’re getting started so that as you grow and get busier, it’s easier to train and delegate to your first hires.

  5. Growth - One of our favorite points that Natalie makes here is that you have to consistently do personal work to broaden your own mindset. You need to surround yourself with others who think big so that you will be encouraged to set ambitious goals for yourself.

This episode will give you a great boost of inspiration as you work on your business! Listen to it here.

This American Life

One of our all-time favorite podcasts is This American Life. Every week they pick a theme and then share stories about that theme. It’s incredible story-telling every time! “Break-Up”, an episode from 2007 is totally worth a revisit. One of our favorite parts of this episode is when writer, Starlee Kine, talks about going through a difficult breakup and realizing that writing a breakup song would help her sort through her feelings. She interviews Phil Collins who gives her some amazing advice about writing her song and about getting through it. The final song she writes is funny and relatable. We hope this episode is an entertaining and welcome distraction! Listen to it here.
