Notepad Sleeve DIY
Today we’re sharing our very own DIY for a notepad sleeve! This is an excellent accessory for carrying one or two notepads together and keeping them clean and free of bent pages or corners. And it’s a crazy simple project! We’re talking an hour max. It’s the perfect project to keep your hands busy while you’re catching up on your current re-watch of The Office. :)
SUPPLIES
½ yard felt fabric
fabric glue
scissors
needle
thread
cereal box
string or ribbon, about 10”
button
sewing machine (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Measure and cut two pieces of fabric that are 13 ½” x 9 ¼” each (13” x 9 ¼” each if you’re making a sleeve for just one notepad).
2. Cut two pieces of cereal box that are 5 ¾” x 8” each.
3. With one piece of fabric (piece A), position each notebook ½” from its respective side and make a mark on the fabric near the top outside corner of the notepad and halfway down the notepad on the middle side.
4. Draw a diagonal line between these two marks on each side and cut along the lines. These will be the slits that the back of your notepads slide into. (Cut one slit on the right side if you’re making a sleeve for one notepad.)
5. Sew a button onto the middle left and outside of the other piece of fabric (piece B).
6. On the inside of piece B, position your cereal box pieces where you want your notepads to lie. Our pieces sit about ½” from the top, bottom, and outer sides and have about 1” between them. Glue the brighter side of your cereal box pieces down onto this piece of fabric.
7. Take a piece of string or ribbon and glue it to the middle right and inside of piece B (same side as your cereal boxes). This string/ribbon will wrap around the outside and tie to the button to keep your notepad sleeve closed.
8. Now glue fabric piece A on top of piece B. The cereal boxes should be between the fabric, adding some structure. Be sure not to glue the area below your slits or else your notepads won’t be able to sit inside the sleeve!
9. We sewed around the edges of the cereal boxes for extra security and a fun design detail. If you don’t have access to a sewing machine, you can just glue down the edges with fabric glue.
10. Trim and shape the edges of your sleeve. Slip your notepads into the slits and BOOM! You’ve got a rad new notepad sleeve. Enjoy! :)
