Making Space for Book Journaling

This post is for all of our avid readers in the GC community. The ones with a large stack of books next to the bed, a library hold list a mile long, and an audiobook always playing in the car. If this sounds like you, today we’re sharing a simple tip for keeping track of your favorite (and not so favorite books) and to help you remember what you’ve read recently.

In an effort to slow down a little and get off our phones this summer we leaned into utilizing our planners for book tracking. In the past we’ve featured our Reading layout or even our Bucket List layout to rate and track the titles we’re reading. These layouts are excellent when putting together a list. But when a little more space and flexibility is needed, we’ve found we really love using the Fillable List layout as a mini reading journal!

We customized the layout and utilized one column per book, though you could divide columns in half to fit more books per page. As part of each heading, we included the title and author, format we read the book in, and our start and finish dates for reading. We used the remaining room to include memorable details, main characters, plotlines, and favorite quotes. And of course our star rating for the book. Tracking all of this in our planners has helped us recall what we are reading when we are cruising through books and has been perfect to take along to book club all summer long!

Online reading tracking sites are great and we aren’t giving those up anytime soon, but this mini journal approach has been so fun, it’s made us want to consider creating a full on reading journal combining the Fillable List, Reading, and Bucket List layouts all in one place! Creating a personalized, customized book journal like this would make an excellent gift for the avid reader in your life.

If you’re looking for some new books arriving this fall, check out this list. We’d love to hear which books you’ve been reading and loving this summer! Any favorite audiobooks you listened to recently? Is there a book you can stop thinking about since you finished it? Tell us in the comments below!
