Creating a Planner for a Student
Summer is slowly coming to an end (or quickly for those that have already started) and it is time to get organized for the school year. Honestly, it’s one of our favorite times of the year for us at Golden Coil, because the new school year comes with crisp new notebooks and planners, a pencil case full of fresh pens and pencils and all the fun post its, clips and accessories are ready for the taking. Pure bliss! Whether you are a student yourself or you want to create a planner to gift a student, this post is for you! We are going to talk about our favorite layouts and formatting for the perfect student planner.
Starting out with the creation of the planner. Golden Coil is great because you can choose school year specific dates. You can also input any school calendar events as well, so scheduling out your year becomes a breeze. After picking your cover, these are the first things you will go over. Make sure that when you do this section you have your academic calendar nearby, ready to input into your planner. You will need to input any dates into an apple or google calendar and then export it to an .ics file in order to upload it to the Golden Coil website. A tutorial on how to do that can be found HERE.
Next you will get to choose your weekly/daily planner pages. For a student planner, we definitely recommend a weekly layout. This will give you plenty of opportunities to add any additional +pages at the end, which is key for our student planners!
Our top 3 weekly layouts for students are: Horizontal Half 2, Sections 3 and Horizontal 2 (double page).
All of these layouts provide adequate space for due dates and to-do’s, while allowing additional space for jotting down notes, ideas, priorities, or gratitude.
Next, the super fun part - picking out the +pages! We have SO many great planning pages for students, so narrowing it down is going to be difficult! The obvious planning pages that are great for students is our “Homework” and “School” pages. These are great for mapping out assignments and ensuring due dates are met. However, we also love our lined, blank and dotted pages, our reading list, goals page, habit tracker, reflections and to do pages.
Any layout in our “Standard” section is great for a student and can come in handy in so many situations. If you are gifting a planner to a student and aren’t sure which pages they will utilize the most, these are super safe choices. However, if you are creating this for yourself it is sometimes its fun to think outside the box for ourselves. How can you get creative with our +pages to create system that will work best for you and your goals this school year? What courses are you taking that may need a little something extra to keep things straight. Are you taking an art or design class? Give one of our Story Board layouts a try! Will you be taking a cooking class? Add in our Kitchen Conversions layout as well as a few Recipes layouts. Another great layout idea is for anyone taking some kind of marketing class. Our Project planning or Social Media Planner pages would be great for this!
Now that you have some ideas for layouts and +pages, get creating! We hope you are able to create a planner that will help make your day to day life as a student a breeze!
Happy Planning!
