10 Ways to be the BEST Host/Hostess When Friends or Family Come to Town

Anyone else absolutely LOVE when friends or family come to visit?! I love preparing my home for them to come and stay. I do my best to help them feel comfortable while they are visiting. Hosting is such a great way to find ways to serve your visitors and I love adding a few extra fun touches to elevate their stay in my home! Here are some of my favorite ways to up my host/hostess game whenever I have company!

Create a small goodies basket. Include some bottled water, their favorite snacks/treats, some travel toiletries, gum and a note telling them how excited you are to have them in your home. On the note, include the wifi password as well!

Stock your fridge and pantry with lots of good food/drinks. I always ask my visitors what some of their favorite foods to have on hand are, and make sure to have some for them when they come! This helps make it less awkward for them to look in the fridge/pantry when they are hungry if they know there is food in there specifically for them!

Fresh sheets and towels. ALWAYS. I have a set of towels that is specifically for guests so that they stay nice and pretty and don’t look used or grungy. Sometimes it can be a fun touch to put a small chocolate on their pillow as well!

Creating a welcoming environment with a clean space. I love to clean my house and car before guests come so they can fully relax while they are visiting! Sometimes getting fresh flowers or a new candle can be a great touch!

Having an activity sheet ready to go! This is something you can keep on hand for whenever you have guests or something you can customize to each guest you have. It’s just a list of all the fun things to do in your area and maybe include whether they are free or cost money.

Similar to an activity page, you can do a food/restaurants page! Include your favorite places to eat out and places you think would be fun to try!

Have some light reads available for your guests! You can choose some of your favorites or you can go to Goodwill and pick up a few cheap books that your guests can take with them after their visit for the airplane or road.

Creating a drink bar so that guests can help themselves whenever they want! Whether it is a tea/coffee bar or a fancy soda bar, it can be fun to set out some yummy syrups, fun cups and tasty flavors for your guest to give a try!

If you have the space, let them know they can unpack their suitcase in any open drawers or closet space. No one likes living out of a suitcase, so if you have the space make sure they know they can use it!

Lastly, have fun! Don’t sweat the small stuff, and make sure that you are taking your guest’s lead on what they want to do each day. Give ideas if they ask, but make sure they know you are just happy to have their company and are ready to enjoy every second of it!
