Sunrise and Sunset Times in Your Planner

Summer is here in full force! The days are long, warm and full of opportunity! Have you ever considered adding sunrise or sunset times to your planner? In this post, we’ll review reasons to consider it and share a couple of fun resources and ideas for our Golden Coil friends!

Why chart sunrise and sunset times in your planner?

1. Getting in touch with nature

Have you ever tried intentionally rising with the sun? Perhaps for a morning meditation or an early session of garden tending? There are few better ways to get in touch with nature than to plan outdoor tasks around the daylight. Being mindful of your surroundings draws your attention to the beauty present. It will help you to appreciate stunning season transitions and days with great weather. Maybe those sunset and sunrise cues in your planner will also help you remember to pause and watch the sky put on a show for you!

2. Timing your fitness routine

Are you a fan of a brisk daily walk? Is pickle ball your favorite way to get your heart pumping? Training for a marathon this Fall? My guess is that temperature is a big consideration when you’re mapping out your weekly workouts. Try timing your exercise with the crisp, cool air at sunrise! Knowing ahead of time when you’ll be up and moving in the morning will also help you to determine the best time to hit the sack at night.

3. Planning outdoor adventures

As a young girl, my dad would often wake us well before sunrise on nice summer days. We’d hike up the Utah mountains to spot wildlife or hit our favorite local peaks to the glow of a soft sunrise. It was absolutely exhilarating, not to mention gorgeous. Whether your adventures involve the beach, spelunking, boating, climbing, outdoor sports or the like, considering sunrise or sunset times will help you catch those awe-inspiring moments and maximize your daylight.

4. Setting the scene for social events

If you’ve planned a night of campfire s’mores or stargazing this summer, you’ll need to know when dark will fall to time it just right. Yard sale? Family barbecue? Hot tubbing? Outdoor birthday party? All helpful to note when your light will come and go.

How to add sunrise and sunset times into your planner!

Websites like timeanddate are a great resource to look up the sunset and sunrise times in your area! Simply search your city to see information for today, and scroll down for stats on future dates. This is perfect for those of you who like to plan weeks or months in advance!

Of course, you can always jot the times down in your planner by hand, but if you want to get fancy, you can have sunrise and sunset times printed into your planner by adding an .ics file in the “Events” section while customizing your planner! Simply add the sunrise and sunset times to your digital calendar, and export an .ics file. If you’re new to creating an .ics file, check out our quick how-to tutorial HERE.

Note: Each sunrise/sunset will be its own individual event in your digital calendar. For this reason, I would recommend adding them on a weekly basis.

Here is a look at my digital calendar after adding the events. I used some sun and moon emojis to make it fun!

And here’s how it looks on my weekly planner page!

We hope you’ve found this post fun and helpful! Let us know if you give it a try!
