Prepping Your Planner for School

Yes, it’s only July, but whether you’re a parent, a teacher, or a student yourself, class will be back in session before you know it. If you like to start with a fresh planner at the beginning of each new school year, or even if you have an existing planner, here are some ways you can prep it for academic success!

Student

There are so many useful pages for students, but we’ll highlight just a few. The School page is a catch-all page where you have a weekly calendar at a glance, can easily keep track of your subjects, to-dos, and even habits you’re wanting to cultivate throughout the year.

The Homework page is similar, but emphasizes your assignments—when they’re due, if they’re done, and even what grade you got on them. This page also has a helpful space to look ahead and write down what’s coming up next week.

If you didn’t add these to your planner last time you created one, don’t sweat it. The weekly layouts can also double as a homework tracker and have many of the same features, such as to-do lists, habits, etc.

Parent/Guardian

With the start of a new school year, schedules usually ramp up. I like to prep my planner with dates I already know. Find your child’s school-year calendar and input each day they have off, their parent-teacher conferences, etc. You can do this in your weekly calendar or in Year at a Glance. Write down the major events occurring, whether it’s holidays, birthdays, vacations, etc. and the days your children have off school, that way you can try to plan around their days off and your potential work schedule.

The Goals page is a great way to start the new school year. You can set goals with each of your children and revisit them frequently together throughout the school year. It’s also a good time to start fresh on a family goal or one you might have for yourself (who says you have to wait for the new year?).

The Expenses and Budget pages are great for preparing for school supply and new school clothes shopping. Keep track of your children’s sizes, what they’re in need of, and how much was spent.

Teachers/Homeschoolers

For teachers or parents who are homeschooling, the Lesson Plan page is a great way to organize your ideas and help put them into action. The Project Planning pages are also great for keeping track of various projects, whether art, science, music, etc. On the Month at a Glance, you can input lessons so you can easily see your curriculum in one spot and stay on schedule.

These are just some of the many ways to utilize your planner to help you be more organized going into the school year and set you or your student up for success.
