Preparing Your Home for the Holidays

Is anyone else as shocked as I am that the holidays are so quickly approaching?! Where on earth did 2022 go?! The stores have done away with Halloween décor, and Christmas retailing is in full swing. I’m sure I am not alone in this feeling, but occasionally I find the Holidays to be a little overwhelming. However, something that I have found that has helped me enjoy them so much more is preparing my home for the season. Here a few tips to consider while gearing up for the busy season:

1.     Declutter Your Home

During the holidays, you are inevitably going to inherit more things – between neighbor gifts, parties, dinners, and family gifts it may feel like the items in your home double during this time. I like to manage this ahead of time, by doing some decluttering beforehand.

  • Go through yours and your family’s closets – get rid of any clothes that don’t fit or are worn down from the year’s use. Try on all your fall/winter clothes to ensure everything fits or is loved.

  • Go through your fridge and pantry and get rid of any expired/spoiled food. Holidays are a time for baking and treats, so be sure your pantry and fridge are ready for it!

  • Lastly, go through toys and books and donate what is no longer loved or being used. If you have kids, maybe try getting them involved in this process as well!

2.     Simplify Your Décor

This practice is one I have developed over the last few years. My family has moved 3 times in the last 4 years, and moving, inevitably, comes with getting rid of things. I have found that I enjoy my home so much more with just a few simple, and beautiful seasonal décor items. I try to mostly decorate for the season, and then add a few small items that are holiday specific. This helps my home continue to feel fresh and clean without being too overwhelming.

3.     Plan Ahead with Your Golden Coil

Use your Golden Coil planner to help you plan ahead for holidays! Do what you can to nail down dates of events, programs, parties, etc. Even consider writing in your to-do list on the upcoming weeks that are already looking busy! Your future self will thank you when you approach the week and find that things are already planned. Also, consider putting in one of our “Holiday Gifting” +Pages in your next planner and use it to help plan out gifts for friends and family.

And finally, just remember to enjoy the Holiday season as it seems to pass as quickly as it appears. Wake up early, drink a warm beverage, and enjoy planning each day!
