Little Known Holidays: September

If you’re in the mood to celebrate beyond Labor Day this month, Golden Coil’s got you covered. With preset events, you can add not only traditional holidays to your planner, but also “World,” “Food” and “Fun Holidays.” You can check them all out when customizing your planner, but here are just a few this month with some ideas on how to celebrate!

September 5th - International Day of Charity

What better way to kick off the month than with a service-focused holiday! The holiday’s purpose is to raise awareness and “provide a common platform for charity-related activity all over the world.” This can be on an individual or international basis. One way to participate might be to organize a charitable event in your community, like a sock-drive for your local homeless shelter, a canned food drive, or a book drive. You could also find a cause that inspires you and find out how you can help or make a donation. Other options include visiting the elderly, writing kind notes, or donating used clothes or toys. Big or small, it’s up to you, but this definitely seems like a holiday worth celebrating!

September 6th - Read a Book Day

Although this falls on Labor Day, who says you can’t also read a book on your day off? If you need some recommendations, visit your local library, scroll through some bookstagram accounts, or check out this blog post.

September 19th - Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ay, matey! You might really impress (or embarrass) your kids by using this Pirate Speak Translator to respond to their every question. If you have younger children, you could also use the translator to create a play and perform it as a family. It could also be an opportunity to learn about pirates in history or write your own pirate-themed tales.

September 22nd - Ice Cream Cone Day

  • Sample your local ice cream places—yes, plural! Choose three local ice cream shops and try their different offerings. The only rule is you have to eat it in a cone.

  • If going out isn’t an option, try making your own ice cream at home or sampling some store-bought flavors. Jeni’s, Haagen-Dazs, and Ben and Jerry’s are some of our favorite brands.

  • Try your hand at making your own waffle cones with this recipe. No matter how you choose to celebrate, it’s sure to be delicious!
