Blank Spaces? We've Got You Covered
We hope you’re getting the most out of your planner, especially since you were able to customize it! That being said, we all find ourselves with empty spaces in our planners from time to time and we wanted to give you a few ideas for how to utilize those spaces and get the most out of your planning experience.
First off, evaluate which parts of your planner most often end up blank or unused. It could be a page feature such as the sticky note spot, an ideas box, or a “Next Week” or M-Sun list. Maybe you find that you have a lot of extra to-do spots, blank lines on a list, or extra space on the days in your layout. While these are all good things to evaluate when selecting your next layout, it may be that you really like the layout you picked and just want to maximize its use.
Once you’ve identified where you’re most often seeing blank or unused space, start brainstorming how you’d like to use it. (If you need ideas, our Facebook Insider page is an excellent place to get some community input!) Are there page features you wish you had in your layout? How could you convert blank or unused spaces into one of these page features? For example, maybe you like the little habit tracking feature on some of our layouts, but ultimately decided on a layout without one. Could you use some extra space in the sticky note spot or an ideas box to sketch a habit tracker for yourself each week?
Figuring out how you’d like to use blank spaces will help you incorporate them into your weekly planning ahead of time. Maybe you’d like to dedicate extra to-do slots into a priorities list or goals for the week. Or you could use your M-Sun list to write down a must-do task for each day. You could use an empty ideas or sticky note box for brainstorming or meeting notes. You could also use a color code and track which habits you worked on by making corresponding marks on each day.
If you’re not that worried about the blank spaces left in your planner at the end of the week, you might enjoy some fun ideas for using those clandestine blank spaces you end up with here and there. For example, there are a lot of ways to use those blank spaces to journal. If you have extra space in the days of your layout, you could jot down a small note about each day. Or, you could use a blank sticky note spot to paste in a photo from the week. You may also enjoy using blank spaces for reflection or listing gratitude (a “Next Week” or M-Sun list is perfect for this!) We also love using extra to-do slots or empty sections of lists to de-stress by writing a worry list. Then, work on that worry list by planning your next week—and use some extra blank space if needed!
