Easy DIY: 10 Fun Foodie Costumes

The leaves have turned from green to golden, we’ve already consumed more pumpkin spice than we can bear, and ghosts and goblins stand guard at our doorsteps. If you’re constume-less and unsure how it’s already the end of October, you’re in good company. I’m a planner who is also very last minute. Through the year, I jot down prospective costumes in the October section of my planner knowing full well I won’t be putting a costume together until the week of (but at least I have ideas!) Here’s 10 fun food Halloween fits on this year’s list.

SWEET TREATS

Vanilla Ice Cream Cone (with Sprinkles and a Cherry on Top!)

Supplies Needed: Red Yard + Headband //  White Top + Paint // Tan Bottoms

We love this ice cream costume that can be adapted for lovers of cold confections young and old. Here, they’ve used a yarn pom for the cherry topper, but a styrofoam ball painted red, or that clown nose from last year’s costume works great too! If you want something 3-D and don’t have an embosser, felt or cloth strips work great!

Cotton Candy

Supplies Needed: Poly fil + Headpand + Pink spray paint + Paper cone

Bring state fair vibes with this adorable cotton candy costume. If you don’t want to go full body spun sugar, pair the headband with whatever pinks you have in your closet. Poly-fil is recommended here, but pillow stuffing and tissue paper are grade A alternatives.

Bubble Gum Machine

Supplies Needed: Poms + White top // Red bottoms + Felt

When’s the last time you dropped a quarter in a gum ball machine? We love the little piece of nostalgia that comes with this gumball outfit. The poms are absolutely adorable, but we’ve seen some versions with actual gumballs!

TOO PUNNY!

Smart Cookie

Supplies Needed: Graduation robe + Mortarboard // Cookies!

Dust off that graduation robe and glue on some cookies. We appreciate the felt versions, but feel free to use the real thing if you think you may enjoy a snack later!

Smarty Pants

Supplies Needed: Smarties candies + pants

Meet your first pair of edible pants! Glue some Smarties onto a pair of jeans you’re ok with giving up to the Halloween cause and you’ve got yourself a costume!

Bread Winner

Supplies Needed: Medals or trophy // Loaves of bread

Are your old track medals somewhere in the basement? Pair those with some bags of bread and you’ll be winning this Halloween.

FRUITS & VEG

Cool as a Cucumber

Supplies Needed: Green tops and bottoms + felt // Green hat // Sunglasses

This costume from Handmade Charlotte has us wanting to pass the green goddess dressing!

Avocado

Supplies Needed: Green tops and bottoms + felt // Foam core + paint // Baby bump

A fun costume for mamas-to-be, time to show off your pit in the oven.

Pineapple

Supplies Needed: Toilet paper roll + felt + headband // Yellow tops and bottoms

We could all use a little fun in the sun this fall. We love the island vibes being channeled through this pineapple costume! Here, they use a felt bib, but a yellow dress will also do the trick!

Side Salad

Supplies Needed: Green tissue paper + colored construction paper + red balloons + green long-sleeved t-shirt + salad for and spoon

This side salad will certainly be the star of any Halloween parade. Bunch and hot glue tissue paper to a tee shirt. Using spray fixative, adhere your cutout veggies. If you’re looking for a companion costume, try salad dressing!
