Connecting with Your Ancestors
Happy Memorial Day! We’re grateful for the ways this holiday allows us to be reflective by paying our respects to those who have given their lives for freedom. We also love using this time to connect with our ancestors’ stories and we’ve found some really lovely ways to use our Golden Coil planners and notebooks to do so!
HEIRLOOM RECIPE BOOK
If you’re anything like us, you’ve got a collection of delicious recipes from your parents, grandparents, and other family or friends that’s an unorganized collection of loose paper and unattractive binders. We love using Golden Coil notebooks to create an heirloom family recipe book! With a combination of recipe pages and blank pages, you can create a journal/recipe book hybrid where you write down recipes and add photos and notes about the authors of each recipe. Not only will everything be organized in one place, but you’ll have a keepsake that can be passed down for years!
REFLECTIONS +PAGE
We love how uniquely this page can be used to connect with your ancestors. In the “Inspiration” box, you could add a photo of your ancestor, a short story about their life, an entry about what you admire about them, or a question to ponder related to them. The rest of the page provides space to reflect on the prompt and ways you can apply it to yourself. This is such a lovely way to think more deeply about your ancestors’ stories and to find meaningful connections to your own experiences.
JOURNAL NOTEBOOK
There are so many great ways to customize a Golden Coil notebook for journaling and with a combination of our pages, you can create a unique journal that lets you record your story alongside your family’s history. You could use lined pages for your personal journal entries and blank pages for adding photos of your parents, grandparents, etc. with captions that tell bits of their story. You can also include some Reflections +pages as an exercise in connecting your ancestors’ life experiences with yours.
Since Golden Coil is completely customizable, you could use any combination of some or all of these pages to create an unique planner or notebook that’s focused on your family history. We hope this has given you some fun ideas!
