DIY Cleaning Recipes
If you couldn’t tell, we are in full spring cleaning mode over here at Golden Coil and we are loving it! We’re also feeling extra creative and have been researching DIY cleaner recipes to share with you. Here are a few we rounded up:
FRESH LEMON DEGREASER FROM REAL SIMPLE
2 cups water
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon castile soap
1 tablespoon baking soda
Mix all ingredients in a 24-oz spray bottle. Spray onto surface and wipe clean. This is all-purpose except for wood!
WOOD FLOOR CLEANER FROM MARTHA STEWART
1 gallon water
1/8 cup liquid soap
1/8 cup vinegar
Simply mix and mop!
GLASS CLEANER FROM GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
2 cups water
1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol 70% concentration
1 to 2 drops of essential oils for smell
Avoid cleaning windows on a hot day—this solution will dry quickly! For mirrors, spray directly onto a paper towel or cloth.
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup vodka
1 1/4 cups water
15 drops essential oils for smell
Did you know vodka has powerful germ-killing properties? Becky at Clean Mama recommends using this all-purpose spray for toilet cleaning. Spray this mixture all over the exterior of the toilet. Let sit for 10 minutes, then wipe down. Follow up with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect (let sit for 10-15 min). Becky recommends cleaning the interior of the bowl with castile soap.
2 cups baking soda
20 drops essential oils for smell
a squirt of castile or dish soap in the sink
Becky uses this mixture each night to clean her sink, giving her kitchen a nice “reset” for the next day. Simply mix the baking soda with essential oils, sprinkle all over the wetted sink, add soap, and scrub. Finish with a thorough rinse.
NOTE ON SUBSTITUTIONS: According to Becky at Clean Mama, vodka (at least 60% alcohol) or Everclear are great substitutes for rubbing alcohol. You can also use dish soap in place of castile soap.
