Tips for Golden Coil Lefties
When designing Golden Coil planners, there was a lot to keep in mind. We wanted to make sure these planners were not only customizable, but would be conducive to a wide-range of needs. And we know if you write left-handed there are a lot of products out there that work against you, which is why we designed our planners to specifically meet some of those leftie needs.
LAY FLAT DESIGN - One frustration with notebooks when writing left-handed is that the tight binding causes the book to close onto your hand while you’re writing. If you were right-handed, you could easily hold the book open with your left hand while writing. But it doesn’t work the same way for lefties! That’s why our lay flat design is so helpful for writing left-handed—you can lay your planner open and write on both pages without the cover closing back on top of your hand.
COIL FOR FOLDING - Depending on the thickness of your planner or notebook, you may find your hand bumping into the coil when working on the right page (this happens to righties when using the left page). Another great element of our planners is that you can simply fold the book in half, which will lift the pages up and reduce the amount of coil that’s exposed, making it less of an irritation to your hand.
LAYOUTS DESIGNED FOR LEFTIES - We know that often the right page of a layout is where you might find your hand bumping into the coil the most. Because of this, we’ve designed weekly layouts specifically with lefties in mind, placing the page where you’ll spend the most time writing on the left side of the layout. For example, if your schedule is more task based and less appointment based, the Sections 2 Single Page layout will allow you to fill the left page with your long list of to-do items, meal planning, and habit tracking while you jot your few appointments on the right page.
If your schedule is more appointment based, the Horizontal 2 Double Page layout has lots of space on the left page to fill out all of your appointments from Monday-Friday. The right page has space for the weekend and a to-do list.
4. PEN SUGGESTIONS - To avoid the smearing that can happen when your hand passes over your handwriting, we’d recommend using a pen that dries rapidly. Our paper does an excellent job helping with this—the slight tooth of the paper holds the ink and helps it absorb quickly. We love how well felt-tip pens, such as Le Pen, and extra fine pens, like Muji .38, dry on our paper. See our blog post here for our full list of pen recommendations!
