8 Tips to Help You Fall in Love With Reading

Over the last several years, I have fallen in and out of love with reading multiple times. It ebbs and flows based on the phase of life I am in, my time management skills, or if I am more in the mood to watch a show at the end of the day instead of read. However, I have found that I thoroughly enjoy the times in which I am spending more time reading and entering new worlds of learning and entertainment. Here are a few of my tips to help you get back into reading more often!

  1. Try starting with audiobooks! This is such a great way to get through some new books and peak your interest in new books/series. Its been the only way I have been able to get more into reading when I am in a slump. It also helps motivate me to do some of my daily tasks as I can listen while cleaning, cooking, driving, or daily walks. You can get an audible account or access lots of audiobooks free through your local library.

  2. Consider having your first choice be an easy breezy read. Something that will catch you on the story right away and moves quickly. Starting with a harder, more difficult read can occasionally cause lack of interest or motivation to keep going.

  3. Re-read your all time favorite book. This is a great way to get you in the reading mood and light the flame again!

  4. Set screen time limits on some of your more used apps on your phone and once you have reached those limits - switch to reading! I, like many, have wasted many hours mindlessly scrolling my phone. I have found that when I limit my screen time I have much more time for reading outside of my usual scrolling habits.

  5. Set aside a specific time each day to read. Sometimes all it takes is putting it into our daily schedule to find the time to do things we may feel we don’t have time for.

  6. Join a book club! This can help you find direction with your reading, a social circle, and accountability for finishing certain books in a set time limit! It can either be a local book club or a larger online book club. Whatever fits your needs best will be great!

  7. Ask friends and family what their favorite reads are. This is a great way to start your reading list!

  8. Consider investing in a kindle. This was the biggest game changer for me when getting back into reading. It allows me to easily transport my books, read at night with no lights on, easily access books through an online store or library, and just overall convenience! I absolutely LOVE my kindle!

We hope you love these recommendations and that they inspire you to spend some more time reading. We would love to hear some of your favorite reads below!
