Staying Organized on Vacation

Now that summer is in full swing, we are all starting to plan and go on our favorite vacations! We love a good vacation here at Golden Coil, however they can sometimes become stressful with all the “stuff” strewn about, the endless to-dos, and the need to make last minute food or activity choices. We are going to list some of our fool proof tips for staying organized on vacation so that you can take a deep breath and enjoy your trip to the fullest!

  • First tip is Packing Cubes! Packing cubes are so great and help you stay organized throughout your trip. It is easy to separate members of your family’s clothes this way and it makes unpacking a breeze.

  • When packing for yourself or your kids, consider rolling outfits together so that you can just grab a roll for the day and you are good to go! This takes the thinking out of getting ready and you know that you have all the outfits planned and ready to go. This tip also helps prevent overpacking!

  • If you are going somewhere warm where you will be swimming, pack a separate bag with all your swimming gear. Towels, swimsuits, goggles, sunscreen, etc. This way you don’t have to riffle through all the bags to get the few items that you will need for the beach or pool!

  • Unpack your suitcase as soon as you get to your destination! This prevents the “living out of a suitcase” feeling and helps keep things organized and off the floor.

  • If you are able, do a load or two of laundry while you are on your vacation! I love coming home with a suitcase full of clean clothes so I just have to put it away when I get home. It makes the transition from vacation to being back home much easier!

  • Keep a folder with all your important documents in it. If you are traveling with kids you can keep their birth certificates here and any other itineraries or boarding passes all in one place.

  • Have individual snack bags for each person. This helps eliminate the constant asking of snacks/treats and makes sure everyone has exactly what they want!

  • Clean your car before you leave. Whether you are going on a road trip or not, this is something that is so nice! Starting your vacation with a mess for a road trip or coming home to a mess if you are flying causes unneeded stress! Eliminate that by taking your car through the car wash, vacuuming it out and getting rid of any trash!

  • If you are going on a road trip, map out all your stops and look up places to eat/use the restroom beforehand so that when you get to your stop, you don’t have to waste any time finding a place to eat!

  • If you are flying, research the airports you will be at and see how close your gate is to lounges, restrooms, or food courts. Decide where you want to eat beforehand so that you can avoid aimlessly wandering with kids or luggage.

  • Lastly, make lists! Packing lists, to do lists, an activity list and a list of food choices at each destination. A little prep work before your trip will help your trip run smoothly and seamlessly. Use your golden coil as your travel journal where you can keep all your lists and ideas in one place!

We hope some of these tips help you stay a little more organized on your next trip and that you are able to enjoy yourself a little more! Happy travels!
