Creating New Summer Traditions
Finding new traditions is one of my favorite things to do! Growing up, my family was big on traditions. As I have gotten older it has been fun to pick and choose the things I want to continue to do, things I want to change, and finding new ones for me as an individual and my family. Most of our traditions revolved around Holidays, but finding ones for all seasons can keep things fun throughout the entire year. This post is all about ways to find and create new summer traditions to do with your friends or family.
The first thing you can do, is create a summer bucket list. This is a great way to get all your ideas down on paper and organize the things you want to do most. If you have kids, definitely get them involved! If you have a significant other or group of friends you want to share this with, create a group message and get everyone’s ideas! As the summer goes by, you can choose things that make sense to do again the following year to make a tradition, and other things that were fun but don’t need to be done again.
The next thing to do, is start having fun and making memories with your friends and family! Cross off the things on your bucket list and be sure to take photos and journal all about your fun.
Below is a couple of fun ideas for you to use as a starting point for some traditions you could create for you and your people!
Start/End of Summer Bash - if you have kids this could include a bounce house, water balloons, ice cream trucks, etc. If not, this could include a fun BBQ with friends or a short weekend getaway to a nearby city/town.
A monthly or bi-monthly neighborhood BBQ. Make it a potluck and enjoy getting to know your nearby neighbors.
Go to a drive-in movie
Have a cookout competition where everyone creates their best grilled creations.
Do one vacation or staycation. This can be as simple as camping out in the backyard, or as extravagant as a European cruise. Make it your own.
Start going to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning. Try new fruits/vegetables and create yummy new recipes.
Go to Garage Sales on Saturday mornings and see what kind of treasures you can find.
Make some reading goals for yourself or your family - a list of books you want to get through before summer is over or a number of books you want to finish. Maybe choose a few that are movies and reward yourself or your kids with a fun themed movie night once you finish that book.
Explore one new city. It can be nearby or you can make a fun roadtrip out of it. Explore where you live and the places near you!
Try out a new waterpark of theme park. This is fun with kids or with your friends!
Make a Campfire - maybe just one in your backyard in a fire pit or go all out and make a weekend camping trip out of it. Enjoy s’mores or roasted starbursts!
We hope you have a wonderful summer starting some new traditions with your friends and family! We would love to hear some of your favorite traditions you have or ones you are planning to make this year!
