Setting Kids Up for Back-to-School Success Using Lifestyle Pages
With the end of summer comes back-to-school season! From clothes and supplies shopping to dorm move-ins and class scheduling, there’s so much to look forward to, and it may look very different depending on the season of life you’re in. But with a little bit of foresight, no matter your circumstances, anyone can prepare to have a productive, organized school year. With Golden Coil’s customizations, you can help set your kids (or yourself) up to have the best school year yet! Here are some ideas on how you can utilize the Lifestyle pages to plan for success.
School Page
This is a great page to put at the beginning of each week. With a weekly calendar, habit tracker, to-do list, and place to write the focus for the week, this can keep older kids honed in to what’s most important for that specific week, whether it’s a big paper, test, or performance. This page can also keep their subjects in order when they’re on different block schedules.
For younger children, parents can set a focus for their child’s education that week. Do they want to work on sight words or division or reading comprehension? Write it in the Focus line! It’s also a great place to keep track of school-specific dates for the week—fundraisers, class parties, parent-teacher night, etc. There are so many uses for this versatile page!
Homework Page
Although similar to the School page, Homework is even more geared toward keeping track of assignments specifically. For younger children, this page can keep you as a parent up-to-date and informed on when reading charts, class projects, and other assignments are due. We can’t guarantee you won’t be up until midnight helping with a last minute science fair project, but hopefully this page will help!
If you’re homeschooling, this is also a good spot to keep track of your child or children’s work, all in one easy to reference page. High schoolers and college-aged students can reap the same benefits of having a designated spot for all their assignments for the week. The “Next Week” look ahead box is especially nice to ensure nothing sneaks up on them.
Goals Page
While many may look at goal-setting as a practice for teens and adults, studies have shown that goal-setting in children helps improve self-image, self-awareness, responsibility, and decision-making. Here are some tips from Education World on helping children make successful goals:
Write clear and measurable goals.
Create a specific action plan for each goal.
Read your goals daily and visualize yourself accomplishing them.
Reflect on your progress to see if you’re on target.
Revise your action plan, if needed.
Celebrate your accomplishments!
The Goals page is a perfect tool to help your student in each of these steps. They can write down and visibly see their concrete goals, track and reflect on their own progress, and even mark down each day that they accomplish their daily goal. This gives the opportunity to celebrate both small and big wins!
Back-to-school can be an exciting and anxious time, but we hope these tools can help alleviate some stress and make it a fun, positive year for you and your students!
