7 Ways to Boost Your Mood When You’re in a Funk

As we approach the final few months of winter, we all might be experiencing a little bit of the winter blues. The days get dark quickly and the cold weather and gloomy skies may be getting old. I know I am definitely ready for longer, warmer days! However, whenever I am feeling out of sorts here are a few things I like to do to help boost my mood!

1.     Listen to something great:

Whether it be your favorite music, podcast or book – listen to something that makes your heart happy! If it is music, maybe do a little dance party in the kitchen! Get your heart pumping and endorphins flowing!

2.     Eat something delicious:

Whether you’re someone that prefers to cook at home from scratch or someone that would rather go out, eat something you LOVE! Share it with a friend or family member and enjoy the social aspect of it as well!

3.     Move your body:

Go for a walk, get to the gym, try a new online workout, etc.! It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but do your best to move your body for at least 20-30 minutes a day. This will boost your mood in no time at all. My favorite ways to move my body is through walks, weight lifting and yoga!

4.     Call a friend/family member:

Whenever I am feeling down, I always ALWAYS FaceTime a friend or family member. It makes me feel better and more myself almost instantly. I love the social aspect of chatting and it also helps pass some time if my day is seeming to drag on.

5.     Get outside:

This is something I rarely want to do when it is cold outside, but if I can get at least 10 minutes of sunshine in a day or some fresh air, it definitely helps boost my mood.

6.     Have a self care day/evening:

This is one of my favorite ways to get out of a funk. I love running a bubble bath, lighting some candles, doing a facemask and painting my nails to help raise my spirits! Other ways of self care could be getting a facial or a massage, sitting in a sauna and enjoying the warmth, getting time alone or reading by the fire. Whatever it takes to help your mind and body feel good.

7.     Start a Gratitude Journal

Sometimes when I am feeling down, it can be super helpful to write down some of the things I am grateful for! It can help give you a new perspective on things and it can help your mindset to be more positive. It can be as simple as writing one thing down in your planner every day, or writing a whole entry on it. Let yourself be the one who decides how far you want to take it with no stress or pressure involved!

We hope these tips spark some great ideas for those of you feeling in a slump! Getting out of a funk can take some time, but we know that with implementing a few of these tips you will feel your mood turning around soon!
